Computers tell us when something is wrong — the problem is that we often normalize the symptoms and let them slide until the failure becomes critical. Here are the 5 most common signs that come into our workshop and that you should address before they escalate.
1. Shuts down or restarts on its own
Usually it’s overheating: the fan has accumulated dust, the thermal paste has dried out, or the case’s airflow is poor. Preventive thermal maintenance solves it in one visit.
2. Takes forever to boot up or open programs
Common causes:
- Mechanical hard drive on the verge of failing (did you know data can be recovered before it dies?)
- Too many programs starting with Windows
- Insufficient RAM for current usage
- System full of digital “junk”
3. Recurring blue screens (BSOD)
Not always serious, but never normal. Could be an outdated driver, faulty RAM, or a more serious software issue.
4. Strange noises
Metallic click → possible mechanical disk failure. Click + freezing → urgent, back up now. Fan making “spinning top” sounds → worn bearings.
5. Laptop battery lasts an hour (or less)
Lithium batteries degrade with use. If your laptop is 3+ years old and the battery no longer holds, it’s time to consider replacement. Saves you anxiety and boosts your productivity.
